This pass, crossed by the State Road 509, represents one of the most suggestive access points to the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, offering hikers a variety of routes immersed in uncontaminated nature.

Roccia dei Tedeschi: This itinerary develops along the Forca d’Acero valley, following an ancient sheep track that connected San Donato Val di Comino to the pass of the same name.
Royal Mines of King Ferdinand: This trail starts from San Donato Val di Comino and follows the Forca d’Acero stream until reaching the Galleria San Ferdinando, located at 1,080 metres above sea level.
Macchiarvana Ring: A circular route of about 5 km that crosses the Macchiarvana plateau, surrounded by majestic beech forests. Ideal for families and beginners, it offers a relaxing walk immersed in nature.
P1 Forca d’Acero – San Donato Val di Comino Trail: An itinerary of about 7 km that connects the Forca d’Acero pass to the village of San Donato Val di Comino, crossing woods and offering panoramic views of the valley. Suitable for intermediate level hikers.
Belvedere di Forca d’Acero: A panoramic point easily reached from the pass, from which you can admire spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the underlying Val di Comino.




Types of
Trekking
Tourist Trails (T): These trails are suitable for everyone, including families with children and beginners. An example is the P2 Trail, which starts from Forca d’Acero and leads to the Macchiarvana clearing. With a length of about 1.3 km and a minimal difference in altitude, the trail passes through beech forests, offering a relaxing walk in nature.
Hiking Trails (E): These itineraries require good physical preparation and a certain amount of experience. The F4 Trail connects Val Fondillo to the Forca d’Acero Pass, crossing the suggestive Valle Fredda. The trail winds through beech woods and offers unique panoramic views, making it ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in uncontaminated nature.
Expert Hiking Trails (EE): Intended for expert hikers, these trails have more challenging sections and require adequate preparation. An example is the Anello di Forca d’Acero, a panoramic route that passes through woods and clearings, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. With a length of approximately 8.3 km and a difference in altitude of 105 meters, the route is suitable for hikers with experience
